PARTICIPATING CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS

We are very proud to feature these Langley organizations in our 2022 Langley Charitable Nights series:

LANGLEY HOSPICE SOCIETY

Since its incorporation in 1983, the Langley Hospice Society has been committed to raising awareness and funds to ensure access to, and the development and delivery of quality palliative and bereavement care and support – always with a goal of a permanent hospice residence to meet the growing needs of our community. The New Year will see the Society approach completion of our New 15-bed Langley Hospice Residence, a dream that has become reality with some tremendous support from our volunteers, staff, funders and the caring and compassionate community we’re a part of.

In addition to end-of-life care and support through the hospice residence and in the community, the Langley Hospice Society provides anticipatory, early and ongoing, individual and group grief support programs and services for children, teens, adults and families, all free of charge and available through self-referral.

LANGLEY VOLUNTEER BUREAU

Have you ever seen a need in the community and asked the question ‘what can be done to help?’ That is how Langley Volunteers was formed. As a Task Force initiated by the Non-Profit Committee of the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, Community Leaders from a dozen organizations across Langley came together in 2016 to achieve a common goal–bring more opportunities to volunteers in our community.

We all know that volunteers are a key group of committed individuals who add immense value to non-profit organizations. Volunteers bring their personal passion and enthusiasm for the cause, they bring their family and friends into the fold and at times, they contribute financially. We cannot operate the breadth of services and programs in the social sector without volunteers. It is that simple. Langley Volunteers is here to guide you to opportunities in our community where you can lend your voice, your knowledge, and your passion to help make a difference. We encourage you to register with us at bettercommunity.ca. We can help you find volunteer roles that match your skills and talents.

LANGLEY MEALS ON WHEELS

Langley Meals on Wheels (LMOW) has been delivering food to those in need in the Langley’s for the past 42 years. Our low barrier programs and access to food has expanded over the last few years to reach a broader demographic group-anyone in need regardless of age or living situation. Our program involves over 170 volunteers delivering the meals to the door of the clients, working in our kitchen, doing outreach to seniors and creating social opportunities. A big part of our meal delivery includes volunteers doing a safety check on that person as part of the service-often the volunteer driver is the only person they see as so many are living alone and often isolated.

The Aldergrove Community Station House (ACSH) is a combination of a Neighborhood House model and Community Food Centre model under one roof. Support for children, youth, families, and seniors to access food services and supports in a welcoming place. ACSH will be a welcoming safe place for conversations to begin to be able to improve people's access to healthy food in a dignified way, decrease social isolation and increase people connections to supports. Creating opportunities for people to act on the issues that affect their lives and empowering them to be leaders, increase food skills and knowledge and opportunities to volunteer. With the rise in food insecurity in 2021, this project could not be better timed.
